Another thing to thank W. for. Shining a spotlight on our dirty laundry. Intensive interrogation has been taken for granted as a method of gathering information for many years. It was known to be used,but seldom talked about. President G.W. Bush didn't plan Abu Ghraib and the subsequent Guantanamo revelations, but the list of successes of this administration are few and the list of disgraces and embarrassments many.
Add to the bottom of this list the new public discourse over whether we shall legalize torture & the off-shoring of torture. These are serious issues we have to deal with and I am sure we will find a way to get around certain restrictions that are put upon the government in dealing with them. That being said it is another blow to the moral fabric of the country, not to mention our ever expanding image in the world.
Do our children need to hear on the evening news and see on every web page the constant chatter of whether the president has the legal right to order a hit or authorize a torture session? Can the administration resist throwing all of it's disasters back in our faces?
