I love heroes as much as anyone. Few men have endured such horrific hardships and performed such acts of bravery that John McCain did while in the military.
Respectively, when a candidate for President advertises his military record from 30 years ago as broadly as Senator McCain has been doing, this does bring up the question of what exactly is it that Senator McCain is bringing to the office. Does he possess the skills of diplomacy and statesmanship that the position so desperately needs.
It has now become a staple of the McCain campaign to tout the lineage of heroes in his family tree. When confronted with such a heroic family, the decision to vote for another candidate would seem downright unpatriotic. Where have we heard this phrase used in national politics. I think that great heroic soldier G. W. Bush has used it to sway hearts and minds for eight years .
The McCain campaign is very much about pressing the war and renewing Bush's tax cuts. With a generous helping of mom's apple pie and a John Phillip Sousa marching song, how can he go wrong.
I think the American people have had enough of this packaged image and will demand more of their nominee. Let's hope so anyway!!
