The Republicans have cast their fate behind Mitt Romney, not because they thought he was the best man for the job, but because the winds of politics have chosen him as the Republican with the best chance of winning this election.
They staunchly defend their decision to vote for Mitt Romney, by invoking the mantra of Anyone but Obama. The Republicans would have you believe it is far better to vote for a lesser candidate, as long as he is a Republican, than for the best of the Democrats.
This is inherently illogical. Forty-five % of the country are Democrats, while Forty-five % are Republicans. An even split. A lesser candidate on one side is not better qualified to lead this country than the best candidate from the other side.
Would not Obama have accomplished more in his first term had the Republicans not devised a scorched earth approach to governing. There is no question!
Romney backers cite his turnaround of the 2002 Olympics as proof of his business acumen and managerial skills. Romney is on record* bragging about the over 400 million dollars he received from the Federal government.
Instead of having the private sector lead the way, he had his hand out to scoop up the largesse of Uncle Sam. Exactly the thing he would be decrying as a federal bailout if a Democrat had done the same thing.
