What have we learned over the past month? That the pace of the shocks and bizarre behavior is accelerating rapidly. The President now has all his yes men and women in place. The Trump- Barr fast train to the right sees clear sailing.
He has been called the Manchurian Candidate, a compromised puppet, and a person in power whose megalomania and narcissism are unchecked.
Going beyond the Mueller Report, we know that Trump does not see himself leading a government that has checks and balances. Leaders of Russia, China and North Korea don't put up with such things, why should he.
The meltdown has begun. How will it end. One possibility is that Trump will have a nervous breakdown or otherwise think it is to his advantage to step down. The more likely possibility is that we will be tested In ways that a few years ago we would have thought unimaginable. Two things we know about President Trump are that he has disdain for everyone. The other thing we know about our President is that he likes to F with everyone. This makes him very unpredictable.
The impeachment process is an attempt to keep opposition up until November, 2020. The Democrats have taken to fighting amongst themselves. The side of reason does not have a lot of arrows in the quiver. Republican members of both houses of Congress have fallen in line with the President's rhetoric, executive actions, bizarre behavior and crackpot ideas. Nothing is beyond the pale.
We will be sorely tested in the days ahead. We have been many times in the past, but never has it been the President leading the charge against reason and toward totalitarianism. Tom Mix, where are you when we need you.
