In the early 1940s a group including actors, writers and business people were assembled over dinner at a restaurant in Chicago. The hostess of the dinner started gushing over her friend, an up and coming business man in his early 30"s. She told the group that this fellow was the youngest bridge player, at fifteen, to ever play in the Eastern Championships and was also one of the best amateur golfers in the New York metropolitan area.
At this point Carl Sandburg, the renowned poet, turned to the fellow and said, "young man you seem to do nothing better than anyone I have ever met." Feeling completely put down, the businessman was very relieved that the hostess was now quiet.
