A well known money manager recently sent out an e-mail decrying the folly of a Pelosi originated economic stimulus package and of a general disenchantment with the Obama moves to date.
Whether this economic stability bill is the brain child of Nancy Pelosi or John Maynard Keynes is not the issue. The events over the last two weeks have shown the most vitriolic and partisan political posturing we have seen in a long time. Especially in the first two weeks of an administration and during an economic meltdown of the first order.
The republican cry that Democratic leaders wouldn't collaborate with them in the spirit of bi-partisanship belies the truth. The Republican leaders want their way and if they don't get it they scream that they are being left out of the process. They are taking advantage of the current uncertainties to try to gain political advantage. They are much more content to undermine the administration than to compromise. It's not as though the last eight years have been a testament to the economic acumen of the Republican philosophy. We have seen the results of their poor governance.
We elected this President overwhelmingly and just as he implements his remedies there is a vast willingness to see him fail.
The level of skepticism is very worrisome given that we won't see tangible fruits of success for some time.
Confidence is the first victim of this new administration. What is needed is for some to stand up and say yes I think this plan is right on the mark and will work.
No one can see every turn in the road ahead, but the plan has a much greater potential for success if a broad level of confidence is present.
