Newt the suit is up to his old tricks again. Say anything and hope that nobody checks his facts. During the South Carolina debate, Newt was blasting the Carter administration. Newt was saying that Government was all wrong. That many jobs were lost and inflation was high.
He contrasted this with the Reagan administration, that did everything right and created 16 million new jobs. But Newt wasn't satisfied with that . He had to embellish the contrast, by stating that the unemployment rate during Carter reached 10.8%, when in fact it never rose above 7.8%. The unemployment rate did reach 10.8% , but that was not until almost two years into Reagan's administration.
